dopamine nation
my book cover render actual book cover

I created this render for a project for my graphic design class at Clark. We were each tasked with creating a new cover for a book we enjoyed. At the time, I had recently read and enjoyed Anna Lembke's Dopamine Nation, so I selected this. I thought it would be a fun and interesting challenge to design the cover using 3D software rather than vector or raster software.

brainstorming sketch wireframes

This ended up being a quite interesting project that necessitated the use of type in a 3D workspace, 3D modeling, and shading/texturing. I based this design off of a brainstorming sketch (forgive my hand-drawing skills.), and added more elements from the book during the modeling stage.

screenshot of blender project

Here you can see an off-axis screenshot from the Blender project. I wanted the models to interact with the text to make the cover feel more dynamic. You can see the wine bottle overlapping the 'n' in Nation, and the cigarette going through the 'p' in Dopamine.
